McAlpine wins £70m WestQuay Watermark centre in Southampton
Hammerson has appointed Sir Robert McAlpine to deliver its £70m extension to the WestQuay shopping centre in Southampton.
The new Watermark centre is a mixed-use leisure development, with the first phase including a 10-screen cinema, up to 20 restaurants and a new public plaza.
It will be built next to Hammerson’s WestQuay shopping centre in the city, which it jointly owns with GIC, the Singapore government’s investment company.
In early 2014, Hammerson appointed Sir Robert McAlpine to build its £150m Victoria Gate retail scheme in Leeds.
Enabling works have started, with the main work on site set to begin in January and the new Watermark centre to open in autumn 2016.
Mace appointed as construction manager for Royal Wharf scheme
Mace has bagged a job to deliver the first phase of Royal Wharf, a major residential scheme in the East of London, Construction News can reveal. Mace will be acting as construction manager for Royal Wharf’s phase one, which will include the delivery of 811 homes. The contract has a construction value of £50m, according to Glenigan.
Carillion beats Bam and Interserve to final PF2 schools deal
The Education Funding Agency has appointed Carillion and Equitix for the £190m Midlands privately financed batch of Priority School Building Programme schools.
Carillion and Equitix will finance, design, build and provide hard facilities management over 25 years for eight schools in the Midlands as part of the PSBP.
Kier bags £600m with major council partnerships
Kier has landed two major contracts to deliver services for Staffordshire and Northamptonshire local authorities, totalling £600m.
The first is a £400m, 10-year Strategic Property Partnership with Staffordshire County Council and the Police and Crime Commissioner for Staffordshire.
Works will include a range of property services such as development, disposal, acquisition, construction, asset management and facilities management.
