Interserve wins £150m BBC deal

Interserve has won a £150m facilities management contract for the BBC. The firm, which is one of the BBC’s framework contractors, won the contract lasting five years with possibility of a four year extension. The deal covers services at over 150 sites around the UK including Broadcasting House in London, MediaCityUK in Salford, Pacific Quay in Glasgow and all other BBC operational sites. Approximately 1,100 employees will transfer to Interserve from existing providers in April 2014 under the contract. Interserve will provide services including broadcast engineering and business continuity services and using technology to see how and when space is used

Morgan Sindall wins £10m Oldham Town Hall revamp

Oldham Council has appointed Morgan Sindall as contractor for a £10m project to turn its town hall into a new cinema-led development. Plans for the Grade II-listed building are the centrepiece of regeneration plans for Oldham town centre which will see it become home to a new cinema and family entertainment complex set to open its doors in 2015. The prestigious project will see the Oldham Town Hall building housing seven cinema screens and six restaurants. Work will include securing the façade of the historic building and safeguarding other heritage elements such as the Egyptian Room and courtrooms.

Big names in hunt for £261m highways alliance

There are 12 contractors in the running to be appointed to the £261m Midlands Highway Alliance medium schemes framework 2. The framework is spread across two lots with a projected value of £261m from April 2014 through to March 2017. Lafarge Tarmac has teamed up with Carillion to bid for both lots, while Aggregate Industries has teamed with Galliford Try in Lot 2. The remaining bids are from sole contractors, with Aggregate Industries and Galliford Try bidding separately in Lot 1. Contracting authorities are expected to appoint five contractors from 10 tendering firms or joint ventures to Lot 1, through which schemes worth up to £5m will be procured. Work worth up to £70m will be awarded through Lot 1.

Beijing Construction Engineering Group part of Manchester Airport City consortium

A major Chinese contractor has been hired alongside Carillion to build the £800m Manchester Airport City development. Beijing Construction Engineering Group (BCEG) is part of the consortium behind the deal, which was announced by chancellor George Osborne yesterday during a trade visit to the Far East. The scheme is partly funded by China’s largest bank, the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China. The Greater Manchester Pension Fund is also part of the consortium and Argent (Property Development) Services have been appointed as development manager for the project.
