Carillion has been awarded a £70.5m deal to upgrade the M6 under one of the government’s four ‘speedy’ construction pilot projects. The deal was one of four pilot schemes set out in November last year by the government to look at measures including offsite and 24-hour construction in an attempt to reduce build times on major roads projects.

Laing O’Rourke has appointed the chief executive of the UAE firm Al Naboodah Construction Group as its new UK infrastructure managing director. Gary Wells has been appointed from the largest privately owned UAE-based construction group which has a turnover of around £500m which specialises in the delivery of major infrastructure projects.

The head of Morgan Sindall’s London construction business will step down from his post after 40 years in the construction industry. Head of London and aviation Peter Jacobs, 58, will take early retirement next year for personal reasons, Morgan Sindall has confirmed. Former Bovis [Lend Lease] and Olympic Athletes Village delivery director Mr Jacobs told Construction News in May that Morgan Sindall was looking for “hundreds of millions of pounds of turnover” in London, adding the company works on a three and five-year horizon.
