Underlying value of construction projects starting on site. (Excludes individual projects of more than £100 million and framework agreements).
The East of England enjoyed a relatively strong 2011. Rising output and a strong level of project starts demonstrated that there was a continued flow of work for the construction industry. This year has seen strong house prices, compared to the rest of the country, while manufacturing confidence has also improved in the region. However, the ONS have reported falling levels of new orders. Glenigan have tracked a decline in the value of planning approvals and in contracts awarded. As such we expect the value of project starts to increase by just 1% over 2012, though we anticipate a recovery next year.
The East of England consists of the following Counties: Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk, Suffolk.
