The Welsh Government has also shot straight to the top of the client table thanks to the design development deal, which involves 24km of new motorway around Newport and a 2.5km long viaduct crossing the River Usk, as well as major remodelling of M4 junctions 23 and 29 (Glenigan Project ID: 91211168).

Bouygues moved up 25 places to take the number four spot after securing a £150 million job to build a proton beam therapy unit at University College Hospital in London (Glenigan Project ID: 12123616). Overall VINCI scored eight contracts worth £468.9 million in March, including a £63 million private hospital project in Didsbury (Glenigan Project ID: 12107795).

Interserve rounds off the top five with a £100 million deal to build another proton therapy plant at Christie Hospital in Manchester (Glenigan Project ID: 14264458) and a £150 million contract for a biomass plant in Rotherham for Brite Partnership (Glenigan Project ID: 10245484).

New entries to the monthly table include Burmeister & Wain (BWSC) and Aalborg Energie Technik, with a shared deal to build a £194 million biomass plant in Tilbury (Glenigan Project ID: 13517364). BWSC also has a £80 million biomass scheme in Cramlington for Estover (Glenigan Project ID: 12319395).

Meanwhile Lend Lease are straight in at number six after being confirmed as the main contractor on the £230 million redevelopment of Buchanan Galleries in Glasgow for joint clients Land Securities and Henderson Global (Glenigan Project ID: 06499796).

Following a five-month hiatus, Balfour Beatty returns to the top of the annual league table this month, buoyed by a £198 million contract for a managed motorway scheme between junction 2 and 4a of the M3 (Glenigan Project ID: 00145894). Last month’s pole sitters Skanska slipped to third place, with 32 deals worth £1.81 billion.

Elsewhere in this month’s contractor leagues, Gleeds moved up two places to sit atop the quantity surveyor table and BDP jumped five places to the head of the architects list. With a monthly haul of ten deals totalling £1.21 billion, Arup was the clear leader in the consulting engineers table.
